abortus_125Tuesday 24 April 2012 15:20 Similar to other post-communist societies in Eastern Europe, Romania liberalized access to abortion immediately following the Revolution and has turned its back to the debate ever since. On several, but few, occasions throughout the past couple of decades, efforts have been made to rightfully condemn the communist policy regarding abortion and to acknowledge its victims: approximately 10 000 women that died due to improper care during an illegal abortion. full story

ECPM rejects stigmatization Eastern-European workers and Western-European arrogancy

vlag euSaturday 11 February 2012 10:15 The ECPM rejects a recent action taken by the Dutch ‘Party for freedom’ (PVV) against workers from new EU member-states. The PVV recently created a hotline for Dutch people to report behavior by workers from these states that ‘does not fit in Dutch culture’ and also to report so-called ‘job-stealing’ by mentioned workers.

We call on the Dutch government to distance itself from this action in clear terms. This is even more necessary considering the fact that this initiative is taken by a party that gives parliamentary support to the Dutch government. full story

090113 logo_zonderletters_kleinMonday 02 January 2012 16:20 The ECPM condemns in the strongest possible terms the series of bombings targeting churches in Nigeria this Christmas which have killed dozens of people. Our organisation calls upon the Islamist sect Boko Haram – which aims to impose sharia law across the country, and claims responsibility for the three church bombings, which have caused mass carnage for the second Christmas in a row – to respect local people’s right to freedom of religion and conscience. full story
