The Union of Christian and Centre Democrats (UdC) received over 2 million votes in recent general elections. The UdC received almost 6% of the total vote. Furthermore the UdC will also deliver three senators.

The Italian elections of 13 and 14 April were held after Italian President Giorgio Napolitano dissolved the previous parliament on February 6 2008.

The ECPM congratulates the UdC and its leader Pier Casini with this solid result. Despite the unrest in the Italian political playfield, the UdC has proved that a Christian coalition, independent from the right (Berlusconi) and left coalitions (Veltroni) can make it into parliament and offer an alternative to many voters.
