The BCD, a member-party of the ECPM, organised on 28 February it's first official party congress in order to become an official Christian-democrat opposition party. The ECPM supported the BCD in this effort. Leo van Doesburg as ECPM representative in Eastern Europe and Guido van Beusekom as secretary-general represented the ECPM together with Auke Minnema, on behalf of  the ECPYN. Also representatives of Christian-democratic parties from Ukraine, Finland and Norway were present at the event.

The interest was overwhelming, notwithstanding the pressure from the Belorusian regime. The authoritarian and totalitarian regime tried to block the congress by denying a location as a meeting place. Also a number of regional party leaders were arrested and intimidated. Because of internal pressure by the BCD leadership and international assistance a location became available and more than 700 people participated in this congress.

The representatives of the ECPM and the Christian-democrat parties declared their support for the BCD by addressing the congress. Other opposition parties and candidates also expressed their support, among those Mr. Alexander Millinchevich, who was the opposition leader during the last national elections.

The ECPM wishes the BCD protection, perseverance and blessings for their efforts in the coming years.
