The ECPM strongly supports the statement made by the Eastern European Bureau about the siuation in Georgia.
Below you can read the statement:
The Eastern European Bureau of Christian Democratic Parties is very anxious about the tense situation in the Republic of Georgia these last days caused by the wave of mass anti-government and anti-presidential protests in the centre of Tbilisi.
As Christian Democrats we believe that all conflicts and problematic issues need to be resolved exclusively in peaceful and democratic way – by means of negotiation, compromise and dialogue with a respect to each opinion and a strong desire to affirm peace and democracy.
We call all political forces in Georgia to defuse tension in order to avoid bloodshed. We call on political forces not to urge people to riots and civil commotion but seat around the negotiation table to solve the problems the country is facing.
We call on the Members of the Eastern European Bureau of Christian Democratic Parties to issue a special statement of appeal for a dialogue to all political forces of Georgia.
Sincerely,
Volodymyr Stretovych,
Chairman of the Eastern European Bureau
of Christian Democratic Parties
