Interview with Peeter Vosu, president of the ECPM

Name : Peeter Vosu
Year of birth : 1958
Country : Estonia
Civil state : Married
Employment : Estonian Christian Television
Political party : Estonian Christian Democrats

1. How did you get involved in politics?

I started mediating relations between ChristianUnion (The Netherlands) and Estonian Christian Democrats in 2001. I participated in all the Lakitelek conferences (in Hungary, initiative group of ECPM was formed there) in order to create a common platform for the European Christian political parties. As a result of this I joined Estonian Christian Democrats in 2003. I was immediately elected as a Member of the Board.

2. What is your role in your party?

I am the Vice Chairman and responsible for the communication and PR.

3. What is your vision on Europe?

Europe needs Christian Democracy reintroduced. The Christian principles in politics bring blessing to the countries where they are applied. The Christian political parties need to partner in order to strengthen each other and become voice that is heard in Europe. Europe needs to accept Christianity as a core of the societies.

4. Do you have a national role model you like to refer to? (In a positive way - does not have to be a Christian)

I have several national role models who are equally worth of mentioning but I would not like to point out specifically any of them.

5. Why did your party become a member of ECPM? What bind member together?

ECPM unites members and helps to work out common platform of Christian politics. It strengthens the member parties, especially the new democracies. The members of Estonian Christian Democrats feel the party strengthened and also the voters see more potential as the party belongs to the bigger group. It also helps us to speak out with common voice. The other political organizations take us much more seriously as well. These are just some tangible benefits but Christian Fellowship exceeds the tangible and is much bigger value by itself.

6. What are your hobbies?

  • I organize trips to Israel. I love to see Bible prophecies getting fulfilled in that country. I like the people and the nature of Israel
  • I like to take photos and videos. The visual media is a part of my profession but also my hobby
  • I like to play volleyball. This is my favourite sports. But I also like hiking, jogging etc.

7. Is there a Bible passage that has got your heart? Tell why.

I read my Bible every day. I enjoy it all. I feel challenging to try to understand God's overall plans for the world and how I can be a small part of it. It is written like a case study where living examples help to understand unchangeable principles. These principles help to keep good relations between man and God but also between people. So it is also a handbook for politics. I would not point out any specific passage as what is important for me tomorrow is not the same as today.

8. What or who annoys you? Please explain.

I hate dishonesty and injustice. Politicians should not give promises if these are not meant to be kept. Everybody should be treated justly. Injustice is something that increases hatred and terror in the world.

9. By what or who do you get inspired? Why?

I often get my inspiration from God's word or gifted people. The Bible is the source of inspiration that cannot be replaced. Inspiration also comes from private talks or conferences with other inspired people. Another source of inspiration is friendship group with encouraging words. They always inspire for new accomplishments.
