Interview with Kris Vleugels

Name : Kris Vleugels
Year of birth : 1959
Country : Belgium
Civil state : Married
Employment : Teacher / Coordinator C'axent
Political Movement : C'axent

How did you get involved in politics?

In 1990 the abortion law passed through Belgian Parliament. This was the first of a whole series of immoral laws in Belgium. It was in this period I felt called for politics.

What is your role in your party?

I joined the Flemish Christian Democrats of CVP (later CD&V). I was a member of the Limburgian provincial counsel (1995-2000) and was a candidate for the federal senate three times (1999, 2003, 2007).
In 2004 I started C'axent, a Christian political movement to emphasize the C in Christian democracy. This movement is independent. Until now, I am still chairman of C'axent. The board consists of 15 members. It is a Flemish organisation. Flanders is the Northern part of Belgium with 6 million inhabitants.

What is your vision on Europe?

I would like to see more Christian values in decisions and laws in the countries of Europe.

Why did your party become a member of ECPM?

I find it important to contribute to the implementation of Christian thinking and values in politics throughout Europe.

What are your hobby's?

Running, music, travelling.

Is there a Bible passage that has got your heart?

Proverbs 31:8: Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
That is what I try to do in politics.

What or who annoys you?

People who are always talking about tolerance and include everything except Christian thinking.

By what or who do you get inspired?

By my Eastern European fellow Christians. Because they had a hard time till the 90s of the 20th
Century and they managed to overcome. Now they are an inspiration for W-European Christians as us, who are in a kind of mental, ethical and intellectual tribulation.
