C'axent grows steadily

ban_caxent.gifThursday 12 October 2006 11:14
The Flemish political movement C'axent, established in 2004, participated in the elections for the first time last Sunday. They indirectly participated in the local elections by supporting members of C'axent, that were candidates on tickets of several parties. The movement wants to re-enforce the 'C', that stands for Christian, across the parties. C'axent experiences a continuous growth in membership of both activists and politicians.

On Sunday’s elections about one percent of Flemish voters effectively voted for a C'axent candidate. That may seem little, but it means that C'axent is thus represented in quite a few local and provincial councils. C'axent is slowly but steadily becoming a political factor to be  reckoned with.

C'axent isn't a political party, but a political movement that wants to bring something to bear in Flanders, in Belgium and in Europe. The movement wants to accentuate the 'C'. The 'C' that stands for Christian. This means that C'axent wants the spirit of the gospel to permeate society. The natural family should play a central role, being a place where young people are prepared for their role in society. Furthermore, the weak in society should receive the support they need socially, medically and economically to obtain a decent standard of living.
Last September, C'axent has brought candidates and electorates together in order to make all operate out of this  referential frame. Political candidates that support the mission, vision and values of C'axent were supported by the movement.
These politicians that supported the mission and values of C'axent have thus taken a chance and have chosen for a Christian image rather than an image that appeals to a broader public.
Starters in politics, councillors, ex-members of government, parliamentarians, mayors and activists of political parties, many supported the mission statement of C'axent. Representatives of different age categories, of several parties roughly in the centre of the political spectrum, of all political levels and governments and have dared to commit themselves to C'axent.

By 2012 C'axent aims to have tripled their influence by meeting and recruiting politicians, bring them together and offer them training and education.
Kris Vleugels, president of C'axent (and board member of the European Christian Political Movement) rejoices in the fact that the reserve to be associated with a clear Christian identity in Flanders is more and more becoming something of the past.
The moral and social decline in society seems to have reached the bottom. 'It is time for a Christian social revival', says Vleugels.
