ECPM-member party EKD (Estonian Christian Democrats) will participate in the parliamentary election with 108 candidates, covering all the districts, on March 4. They expect to gain at least 5% of votes in order to get over the threshold. Estonian Christian Democrats is the only party in the election that has a clear Christian identity.
The main message of the party is that the party supports Christian values in the society. It includes support to Christian family values, the teaching of religion in public schools, honesty and transparency in politics, and many others. Another area Estonian Christian Democrats are addressing in the election campaign is to stand for values in society that protect the citizens. This includes the banning of propaganda of indecency in the public sphere, working out a program that would stop addictions, like alcoholism, drug addiction and gaming. One of the slogans of the campaign is: Christian principles do not allow cheating.
The campaign is based on the strong identity and historically proven Christian values EKD carries. The party has a few nationally known persons in the society and a lot of people known in the professional circles and locally. The first on the list is Aldo Vinkel, the party leader. The list includes many young people as well.
Estonian Parliament has 101 members. 977 candidates participate in the election from 11 parties (included 7 independent candidates). The election takes place in 12 districts. Each party can have up to 125 candidates. The participation fee per candidate is EUR 385. Outdoor advertisement is not permitted after 40 days to the election.
