First test of new Dutch government; coalition has majority in senate

In yesterday's Dutch provincial elections the Dutch
electorate rewarded the ChristenUnion for its participation in the
new Dutch government. With a rise from 3,1% in 2003 to 5,6% now the
ChristenUnion also doubled its seats in the senate. In The
Netherlands the provincial councillors elect the senate. The
ChristenUnion went from 22 to 38 provincial councillors.
The CDA had a small loss compared to 2003 and the PvdA a larger
loss compared to 2003. However, compared to elections at 22
November last; the new coalition kept its ground. It seems that the
new Dutch government passed its first test well.
