Tuesday 10 July 2007 13:37 On the 3rd of June 2007, the local general election was held in
Republic of Moldova. Unfortunately, the ruling Communist party
committed many abuses and pressures against opposition, used very
aggressively administrative resources and subordinated the
editorial policy of national TV station to the interests of power.
In these antidemocratic conditions the Christian Democratic
People”s Party obtained a significant average and held the
fourth place among political parties.
The second round which took place on the 17th of June 2007
indicates the following results obtained by the CDPP’s team:
62 mayors, 800 village and city councilors, 99 municipal and
district councilors. Therefore, CDPP obtained 42 mayors mandates
more than in 2003.
In spite of the fact that has been registered serious
infringements, frauds and abuses, the Communists registered an
important decrease and lost its dominant position in 25 districts
and in capital Chisinau, where the councils have the democratic
majorities. Communists lost the most important office in the local
administration, of the general mayor of Chisinau.
At the present, CDPP conduct negotiations with democratic parties
in order to create non-communists majorities at the level of
district councils. It means that Christian-Democrats will obtain
the leading positions in majority of district councils.
