Monday 03 December 2007 16:14 The leader of the ChristianUnion in the Dutch parliament, Arie Slob, has urged the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ronald Plasterk, to take action against the explicit “sex dating” commercials that are broadcasted at night on many commercial stations in the Netherlands.
Slob is worried that these kind of commercials will lead to a further “sexualization” of Dutch society. Besides this, Slob also claims that “ these commercials are sold under the name of television shopping, while there is no real product to buy. Yet, the person who responds to these commercials does loose his money.”
Therefore, Slob argues, “should the Dutch consumer be protected by law against these kind of harmful activities.” The first response of Minister Plasterk was not encouraging but Slob remains optimistic: “we have fought against the so called “television phone games” and at the end they were removed from Dutch television”. Slob is confident that in time also these “sex dating” commercials will disappear from the Dutch television screen.
Besides this, Slob also asked Dutch cable companies to supply the Dutch viewer with “clean channel packages”. This would make it possible for Dutch viewers to choose a channel package without an erotic or pornographic channel. In some areas of the Netherlands this is not yet the case and “people who want to see extra sport channels or religious ones, also get a pornographic one whether they like it or not.”
