ECPM CONDEMNS BELARUSSIAN REGIME
Participants of the North-Eastern conference of the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM) support the rights of the Belarussian Christian Democrats (BCD) for political activities and condemn the regime of Belarus that neglects even their basic human rights. BCD and other democratic opposition parties have been trying to register as political organizations for several years but the state keeps refusing. Therefore, all their activities are illegal and many leaders and members have experienced persecution and even imprisonment.
“We strongly request all European politicians and parties in the EU and in the COE to initiate actions to force the Belarussian regime to change in order to respect the basic human rights, civil liberties, especially freedom of conscience and to give space to all democratic opposition.”
The North-Eastern European ECPM conference in Helsinki was visited by representatives from Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, The Netherlands and Ukraine. It took place from April 25 till April 26, connected to the 50th anniversary of the Finnish Christian Democrats.

From 2010 on, the activities of the ECPM are financially supported by the European Parliament.
