It is worth mentioning that BCD sent the request for renting premises to Minsk Tractor Plant, Minsk Automobile plant, “Sukno” factory and some other places. It is worth reminding that the Belarusian Ministry of Justice denied registration for the party after its first Founding Convention in February, 2009.

The BCD leader Paval Sieviarynets commented on the situation:

“If the authorities do not grant us a right to rent premises for the Founding Convention on October, 31 we will hold our Convention in front of the Presidential Administration – at Kastrychnitskaya Square. We ask delegates, our guests and all Christians and all not indifferent people support us under the motto “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty”.

Belarusian Christian Democracy party is ready to hold its Founding Convention on the street. I think that in the looming prospect of the EU decision on sanctions against top Belarusian officials, which is due to be made on November 16, 2009, our Founding Convention on the street will be a good illustration of so-called “liberalization”.

Foreign guests and ambassadors will be also invited to take part in the Convention outdoors.

It is expected that 300 delegates and about 400 guests will take part in the event. If the Founding Convention is to be held at Kastrychnitskaya Square then there will not be restrictions on number of participants and, as a result, more people will be able to attend the event.”
