Wednesday 17 March 2010 12:05 December 1, 2009, the new EU Treaty of Lisbon came into force. In this treaty is included that citizens of the EU can start a so called citizens' initiative, which obligates the European Commission to place the issue concerned in the initiative on the agenda. For such a citizens' initiative at least 1.000.000 (1 million) signatures are needed, that on top of that have to come from at least half of all member states.
My colleague in the European Parliament Martin Kastler from Germany has started to organise the first citizens' initiative in Europe with the motto "Mum and dad belong to us on Sunday!". I have spoken extensively with my colleague and we have agreed to cooperate on this initiative. I want to collect as many votes as I can in the Netherlands and in the rest of Europe.
The goal of this action is to get the free Sunday on the agenda in all of Europe. The Sunday as a day to slow down in Europe! A day for the family, going to church and to relax and recreate. For that we need your support!
This is why I call on you to support this action with your signature at http://www.free-sunday.eu/
Join and pass on this message!
Kind regards,
Member of European Parliament, ChristenUnie (Christian Union party of the Netherlands)
