A collection of texts from the ECPM Congress 2005
Edited by Silviu E. Rogobete and Andre Otchie
Religion in Europe is not and can not be a mere matter of private life. When taken seriously, religion inevitably becomes a public matter. And this is true both at individual and at collective, socio-political levels. What is the role and the place of the Christian religion for contemporary Europe? Are there specific answers within the Christian faith for such pressing issues as coping with religious, national and/or cultural diversity? Can Christians offer relevant views on economic integration, minority groups, religious tolerance, and contemporary forms of extremism?
The collection of texts put together in this work attempts to answer such questions. In fact, this volume reproduces the main contributions presented at the first Congress of the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM) held in Leuven (Belgium) from the 30th of November to the 2nd of December 2005.
Joël Voordewind and Jan Paul Manni (2005)
ECPM wants to appeal to more people and have more people involved; more hands which pray and build.
This Manual gives the means to translate Christian politics into concrete action round the corner’ and in your own country. It also give you practical tips and suggestions on how you can motivate others to put their shoulders to the wheel as well. Experience teaches us that focused action (national, regional and local) is the way to reinforce the sound of Christian politics.
Our current habits of consumption and production in the West cannot be maintained. The way we live, in particular the way we produce and use energy, is no longer environmentally or socially sustainable. Spencer and White analyse the scientific, sociological, economic and theological thinking that makes a Christian response both imperative and distinctive. Their practical conclusions explore what can be done at the personal, community, national and international levels to make sustainable living a reality. Firmly rooted in the good news of the Christian faith, this is, above all, a constructive and hopeful book that offers a realistic vision of a better future.

The definitive statement of Jubilee Centre thinking, Jubilee Manifesto arises from over two decades of serious reflection and practical experience. It presents an alternative to Capitalism, Socialism and other ideologies by identifying relationships as the foundation stone of any society. Ultimately it is the quality of those relationships in families, communities, organisations and between institutions that holds society together and makes life worth living. Through careful study of the Bible, the contributors explore how a relational society approaches nationhood, government, family, welfare, finance, economics, criminal justice and international relations. They then offer insights into the challenges of and strategies for Christian social reform. For those wanting to understand the biblical vision for society and how to go about implementing it in the 21st century there is no better place to start.

Commended on both sides of this pressing and highly charged debate as a 'valuable read' and an 'outstanding contribution', 'Asylum and immigration' (Paternoster 2004) offers a thoughtful exploration of the issues. Combining current social and political research with detailed biblical analysis, it first outlines the contours of each issue before turning to the extensive Christian teaching about the 'alien'. It concludes with a sereis of principles, policies and practical examples that offer a distinctively Christian and balanced perspective on the way forward. 'Asylum and immigration' should be read by everyone who has an interest in a subject that will only grow with importance in the coming years. You can download chapter one right now!

In 1983 Michael Schluter and David Lee published a wide-ranging socio-economic critique of modern western society and a manifesto for its reform. In the 'R Factor' they developed a political philosophy called Relationism. This book is the product of the 1998 Lawyers Christian Fellowhip Academic Conference and seek to test and refine Relationism, asking whether it can be fully integrated into some key aspects of the law such as criminal justice, contract, trusts and the regulation of privatised utilities and family. Written at a time of intense debate, both in the emerging post-communist world and the recession-ridden West, The R Factor presents a powerful critique of our culture. Only through creation of Relational markets and democracies, it argues, will we find personal fulfilment and build a truly stable global order.
