Statement on remarks of Mr. Mahmoud Abbas
The European Christian Political Movement (ECPM), represented in the European Parliament by six MEPs, was appalled by the recent statement of the President of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mr. Mahmoud Abbas. On 30 April Mr Abbas declared that Jews brought the Holocaust on themselves. His apology, several days later and following massive international criticism, is welcomed but will only have meaning if followed by concrete action.
The ECPM insists that the Palestinian Authority and its media refrain from any form of hatred or incitement towards the Jewish people and the Jewish State of Israel. The fuelling of incitement effectively blocks a political solution between the Israeli's and the Palestinians; the two-state solution.
The ECPM calls for the leader of the PA to consistently back the Israeli-Palestinian peace process through all its actions and promote broad Palestinian support for the legitimacy of the Jewish State of Israel.
