Freedom of Speech in Turkey?

The spread of fake news is increasing. Misinformation about elections at national levels as well as European level is leading to division and bitterness. Julian Assange was arrested this week in London, essentially sending a chilling message to any journalist who is not touting the line. Now, more than ever, we must stand for freedom of expression and a free and independent press. On this last week of the current parliamentary term in Strasbourg we want to take a moment and discuss what freedom of speech looks like in Turkey these days. In a country which wants to be part of the EU, members of the media are still jailed regularly. Our guest, Abdullah Bozkurt, is the founder of the Muhabir News Agency which was shut down by the Turkish government in July 2016 and will share with us what journalists go through in Turkey.

Come join us for this special event organized by The European Post and ECPM MEP Peter van Dalen in Strasbourg on April 18th!
